Established in 1983, the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (NSRL) pioneered China's first dedicated synchrotron radiation facility—the Hefei Light Source (HLS). Over four decades of sustained innovation, we have executed multiple HLS upgrades, consistently delivering advanced capabilities that empower user research and drive groundbreaking discoveries—particularly in quantum material microstructures and energy catalysis mechanisms, etc.
Building on this legacy, NSRL launched construction of the world-leading Hefei Advanced Light Facility (HALF) in 2023—a transformative fourth-generation low-energy light source. Currently advancing on schedule toward its 2028 operational launch, HALF represents our commitment to global scientific leadership. Moving forward, NSRL will:
Spearhead synchrotron radiation technology innovationto unlock new scientific frontiers;
Accelerate breakthroughsacross physics, materials science, life sciences, energy/environment, and industrial applications;
Forge collaborative partnershipswith the global research community to co-develop next-generation experimental platforms.
Through these strategic priorities, we will cement China’s synchrotron radiation leadership, fuel national strategic capabilities, and catalyze solutions for humanity’s most pressing challenges.
