David Alesini, Distinguished Scientist of the CAS President’s International Fellowship Initiative, Visits the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory

On November 18, 2025, Dr. David Alesini, a senior scientist at the Frascati Laboratories of the Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN-LNF), was invited to deliver a presentation at the “Qiming Colloquium” hosted by the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (NSRL), University of Science and Technology of China. His talk, titled “Brazeless S/C-Band Radiofrequency Photo-Gun and R&D Developments at the Frascati Laboratories of the Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN-LNF)”, provided an in-depth overview of recent advances at INFN-LNF in brazeless photocathode RF gun technology and accelerator R&D. The presentation was followed by active discussions with participating faculty members and students.

Following his presentation, Professor Donglai Feng, Chief Commander of the Hefei Advanced Light Facility (HALF), presented Dr. David Alesini with the honorary certificate of the “Distinguished Scientist” award under the CAS President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI). The award recognizes Dr. David Alesini’s outstanding contributions to scientific research and his role in promoting international academic collaboration within the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Professor Yelong Wei from NSRL serves as the Chinese collaborator within this PIFI project.

On November 19, Dr. David Alesini also visited the HALF accelerator test hall, the comprehensive facility test hall, et al., where he engaged in technical discussions with on-site researchers and engineers.

Dr. David Alesini is a senior scientist at INFN-LNF in Italy and currently serves as Coordinator of the INFN Accelerators Committee. His research focuses on electron linear accelerators, beam dynamics, high-gradient accelerating structures, and photocathode RF guns. He has delivered more than 40 invited plenary talks at international conferences such as the International Particle Accelerator Conference (IPAC) and the International Workshop on High Gradient Accelerator Technology (HG). He has authored and co-authored over 300 publications in leading journals, including Physical Review Letters and Physical Review Accelerators and Beams, as well as in international conference proceedings.

The “Distinguished Scientist” category supports internationally renowned experts who have achieved exceptional accomplishments in science and technology.
