Background:

The Hefei Advanced Light Facility (HALF) is a major national scientific and technological infrastructure project, featuring a fourth-generation synchrotron radiation source based on diffraction-limited storage ring. It generates soft X-rays with approximately two orders of magnitude higher brightness and coherence compared to third-generation light sources. The advancement will enable the development of novel experimental methodologies with high precision and sensitivity across spatial, temporal, and energy dimensions. HALF is becoming an important research platform for investigating microscopic particle dynamics, the atomic structure of light elements, and the evolution of electronic, chemical, and magnetic properties in materials.

National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (NSRL) launched the construction of HALF in 2023, and is currently advancing on schedule towards its trial operation in 2028.
