Janos Kirz is SUNY Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Stony Brook University, where he served as Chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy between 1998 and 2001. He is currently Scientific Advisor at the Advanced Light Source in Berkeley, where he served as Acting Director between 2004 and 2006. Prof. Kirz's research interests include soft x-ray microscopy and diffraction based imaging of biological specimens.

This time, he will talk about the situation on lightsources and future lightsource projects in the US, and to a lesser extent in Europe.
